AN AMATEUR photographer says winning the Worcester News Camera Club firework photos competition has boosted his confidence.

Harry Watson, aged 22, a Costa barista, won the camera club competition after his proud mum sent the Worcester News his photo of fireworks above the cathedral.

It was Harry’s first time entering a photography competition, and he said: “I was shocked when I heard that I had won. I didn’t think I would win.

“Winning the competition has given me more confidence in my work and to apply for future competitions.”

Harry has been into photography for just over a year, and he said his passion for landscape pictures came after snapping an evening sunset. He then decided to purchase his first camera, a Canon EOS 80D, and hasn’t looked back since.

He is currently studying at the Institution of Photography and hopes to begin a full-time job as a professional photographer.

Michael Purton, editor of the Worcester News, said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the response to our camera club since we started the group in August 2017. We now have almost 650 members and the quality of the photos submitted is superb.

“Harry’s picture, and the other fireworks photos sent in, are great examples of the talent in the club.”

Michael added: "We publish photos from the camera club in the Worcester News every day and are very proud to be able to offer a platform for amateur photographers to share their pictures so widely.

"Tens of thousands of people view the camera club photos in the paper and online."
