A REVIEW of the city's car parks has given the city council a number of options to boost its income and allow the authority to meet - and in one particular case - surpass its savings targets for next couple of years.

The headline suggestion from the review is to increase car parking charges across the city by a "modest" ten per cent - giving the council hundreds of thousands more in income, on top of the £3 million plus it already brings in through car parking charges.

Introducing parking charges for Blue Badge holders and ramping up "premium" short-stay tickets - stays of under an hour - are also suggested in the review.

Upping the cost of car parking in the city would mean a stay of up to six hours would cost £8.25 at Copenhagen Street car park – a rise of 75p.

Whilst increased charges might bring in more money for the council, will potential visitors be put off travelling to the city if it will cost more to park?

Will prospective visitors just vote with their wheels and drive to another city that offers cheaper parking?
