Burcot Garden Club

During the July meeting , the speaker, Frank Hardy, presented the subject "All our yesterdays".

He outlined all the various fashions in gardening that he had experienced during his long working career. As a former vice Principal of the Pershore College of Horticulture, and Chelsea Gold Medal winner for garden design, he has seen the development of garden design over many decades. He was a very entertaining speaker, and illustrated the changing expressions of garden design with the help of ancient photographs and examples of old popular plants. He was rather dismissive of the latest trend of wild flower patches, and also the abundance of concrete in designs in previous times. He brought along many specimens of beautiful plants of the latest modern breeding which were sold off to the very keen garden club members.

On the 12 July, we had another visit to the marvellous Morton Hall Gardens. Although the weather was decidedly inclement, it couldn't spoil the trip around these absolutely wonderful gardens. Anna Olivieri, the owner, was extremely charming and interesting.

In August, the topic for the meeting is "Lovely lawns and flower meadows" by Philip Aubrey.

Burcot Garden Club meets every first Wednesday of the month at the Burcot Village Hall at 7.30pm. Visitors are always very welcome.
