Dr Millar (Hereford Times, June 18) explained the need for the public to take responsibility for their own health and the health of others by wearing face masks in healthcare settings.

Please can you also wear face masks when shopping?

I have been self-isolating since March 10 and, so far, I have had shopping delivered.

During that time I have made dozens of face masks which I have given away to anyone who wants one, and donated 20 to Ledbury food bank.

I went to a shop for the first time last week and queued outside a supermarket for 20 minutes.

I noticed about 1 in 10 people wearing face masks.

This experience means that I will be unable to go shopping in the foreseeable future.

I wear a face mask to protect you, so I need you to wear one to protect me.

Perhaps you think that the incidence of coronavirus locally is low, but prospects for localised outbreaks are high.

A report in the national press recently stated that three food factories (including meat and poultry processing plants) in England and Wales have closed after 250 workers tested positive for coronavirus, and there are suspected outbreaks in five other sites across the UK.

As Dr Millar said, we must learn to adapt to living with the virus, so please wear a mask when shopping so that one day I will be able to go shopping again.
