THE efforts of St John Ambulance volunteers in Dudley will be celebrated today as the borough marks St John's Day.

St John's Day takes place on Wednesday, June 24 and events are taking place across the country to recognise the hard work of the organisation's volunteers who help their communities.

Dudley Council House will be lit green tonight to mark the occasion, while the St John Ambulance flag is also flying from Dudley Castle and Dudley Council House.

The work of volunteers has been praised by the Dudley borough's newly appointed Area President for St John Ambulance, councillor Adam Aston.

Councillor Aston said: “Nationally, our volunteers have spent more than 100,000 hours caring for patients during the coronavirus crisis and Dudley members have been an important part of that, they have also continued to undertake online training, essential fundraising and supported their local communities.

“St John Ambulance has a long and proud history within our Borough, I have asked for the Council House in Dudley to be lit with green light on Wednesday and for the St John Ambulance flag to fly from one of our public buildings as a thank you to volunteers, past and present."

Emma Elgerton, area manager at St John Ambulance added: “With events cancelled right across the summer months, the usual source of income for the charity has taken a massive hit, Dudley members have been amazing fundraisers to support the fight against COVID, the thanks of Adam and I to every single one”.
