A CYCLIST was rushed to hospital with serious injuries following a crash with a car near Merry Hill.

Paramedics were called to the junction of Pedmore Road and Hurst Lane, just after 7am this morning (June 16), after reports of a collision involving a cyclist and a car.

Three off-duty medics also stopped at the scene to help, where the cyclist, a man, was found in a serious condition.

He received treatment at the scene for multiple serious injuries and specialist trauma care, before being taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

The driver of the car, also a man, was uninjured and was discharged at the scene.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a collision involving a cyclist and a car at the junction of Pedmore Road and Hurst Lane at 7.09am.

"Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and two Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Cars attended the scene. An off-duty paramedic, off-duty student paramedic and off-duty nurse also stopped at the scene to assist.

"On arrival we discovered the cyclist, a man, in a serious condition. He received treatment for multiple serious injuries and crews also administered specialist trauma care before transporting the man to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham on blue lights and sirens.

"The driver of the car, a man, was uninjured in the incident.”
