A QUARRY Bank woman who shoplifted from The Range and Boots has been jailed for 25 weeks.

Gemma Murphy, of White City Road, was found guilty of stealing bedding from The Range in Brierley Hill, worth £152.94, on January 27.

The 30-year-old also admitted stealing perfume and cosmetics from Boots in Smethwick in February and March, when she appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on June 11.

Murphy also admitted failing to surrender at Dudley Magistrates Court on March 3 having been released on bail and pleaded guilty to obstructing a police officer on March 11.

She was jailed for 25 weeks and was ordered to pay a £122 surcharge.

Also at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court, a Cradley Heath man received a 35-week jail sentence, suspended for 16 months, after admitting stealing a woman's purse and bank card in the town.

Paul Cross, of the High Street, pleaded guilty to snatching a purse and bank card in Cradley Heath on June 9.

The 43-year-old also admitted using the stolen card to buy goods, when he appeared at court on June 10.

He was ordered to comply with a curfew and to pay £200 in compensation and £185 in costs, along with his suspended sentence.

Also before magistrates last week, a Dudley man was hit with a restraining order and 80 hours of unpaid work after admitting an assault.

Thomas Walsh, of Fisher Street, pleaded guilty to assault and possessing cannabis on June 5.

The 23-year-old was ordered to pay a surcharge and costs totalling £280 and received a community order.

In other cases heard at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court, a 39-year-old man pleaded guilty to shoplifting beauty products and medicine from B&M in Dudley.

Mohammed Farooq, of no fixed address, admitting stealing the goods, worth £58.88 on June 8.

He received conditional discharge for 12 months and was ordered to pay a £22 surcharge.
