Vandals set fire to sheds at Stourport Kingsway allotments

An allotment holder discovered the damage at the Kingsway allotments on Thursday morning (March 19) and called police.

Holly Osborn, who has managed a plot there since December, said: "They have set fire to sheds, tried to set fire to other sheds and emptied them, smashed greenhouses and urinated in sheds. We also found human faeces inside one of them.

"We've looked at the footage from a wildlife camera on the site and there is a group of what looks like older teenagers on the site at about 5pm on Wednesday who don't have permission to be there.

"It's coincided with the local schools reducing the number of year groups going to school but the teenagers could be older."

Holly says six sheds were targeted, suffering thousands of pounds worth of damage.

"I put a post up on Facebook about what happened and I've had people ringing me saying the same has happened to their allotments," she said. "A lot of these people are elderly and this is their hobby."

Holly said police have since visited the site and taken away items to be tested for fingerprints.

"We've just got permission from the council to change the locks as it's suspected whoever did this has got a key," she added.

A police spokesman said: "Damage to the allotments has been reported to West Mercia Police. No arrests have been made at this time and enquiries are ongoing."
