A WALKING event to raise money for two charities has been cancelled.

The Malvern Mayor's Challenge, which was due to be held on May 2, has been put back until at least September after fears surrounding coronavirus.

The walk was supposed to be held to raise money for mayor Neil Morton's two chosen charities, Heartstart Malvern and Malvern Hills Foodbank.

On Twitter, Heartstart Malvern confirmed the event had been postponed, saying: "Due to the current circumstances it is with huge regret that we announce that the Mayors Peaks Challenge in aid of Heartstart Malvern and Malvern Food Bank due to be held on 2nd May is to be postponed until September, date TBC."

It is not known yet when the rescheduled walk will take place, as the peaks challenge joins a host of other Malvern events to be cancelled due to coronavirus.

Also cancelled are the Malvern Spring Show, Countrytastic, the earth day awareness event at Malvern Cube and a host of other events.

We reported last week how walkers were being encouraged to sign up for the two routes, one being a 15km over all 17 peaks stretching from Chase End Hill to North Malvern Hill at the other end.

The other route is a shorter 7km route from British Camp, over seven peaks to North Malvern Hill.

It costs £15 to take part in the walk, which includes the cost of transport to the starting point, as well as the t-shirt and medal each walker will receive. The shorter route costs £10.
