A MUSICIAN from Malvern is putting on a fundraising event to help those affected by the Australian wildfires.

Tyler Massey is hosting a benefit concert at West Malvern Social Club tomorrow (Saturday January 18) to raise money for a volunteer fire service in New South Wales, and was inspired to host the event after his daughter lost her home.

He said: “Right after New Year my daughter, who lives in Australia, lost her house in the bush fires.

“They set up a GoFundMe page to raise money and eventually some friends of mine got in touch about doing a benefit concert to help out the wildfire relief.

“We are hoping to raise as much money as possible for a good cause - it is a £5 donation to get in.

“I didn’t want to make it a ticketed event so hopefully people will be able to come down.”

The event features live music from the Tyler Massey Quartet, Dave Onions, Tilly Chester, Chewie, Carol Sampson and Don Mac and gets underway at 8am for an 8.30 start.

Money raised from the event will go to the New South Wales Rural Fire Service - a voluntary fire service helping fight the wildfires which have devastated large parts of Australia in recent weeks.

The money will also be shared with American-born Tyler’s daughter and son-in-law Lily and Brendan’s GoFundMe page.

Mr Massey added: “I would probably have done an event for the wildfires anyway but with what happened to my daughter there is definitely a personal connection inspiring it.”
