CCTV cameras could be installed in all Gloucestershire taxis as a county-wide consultation is launched.

The survey could pave the way for a camera to be installed in all council-licensed taxis across Gloucestershire.

The measure has been used by other authorities to protect drivers from physical abuse and disprove allegations.

A small scrutiny committee is looking at all the district policies on taxis and whether there can be any joined up working across districts and improvements in policy.

Once the public have had their say, results will go to a report of recommendations to Gloucestershire County Council’s economic growth scrutiny committee after March.

The public consultation is open until January 30, and a link is here: https://gloucestershire-consult.objective.co.uk/public/hr/taxilicencing/taxilicencing

In 2015 taxi marshals in Cheltenham were given wearable CCTV cameras to record any assaults they or drivers are subjected to.
