REDDITCH'S branch of Debenhams appears to be safe for now despite the department store chain announcing 19 closures nationwide.

The list of stores to be closed includes cities and towns across the country, the closest of which being the Birmingham branch at The Fort.

Full list of closures: Altrincham, Greater Manchester, Birmingham The Fort, Kirkcaldy, Fife , Walton-on-Thames, Surrey , Wandsworth, London and Wolverhampton (January 11)

Chatham, Kent, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, Slough, Berkshire, Stockton-on-Tees, Co Durham, Welwyn, Herfordshire and Witney, Oxfordshire (January 15)

Ashford, Kent, Canterbury, Kent, Eastbourne, East Sussex, Folkestone, Kent, Southport, Merseyside, Southsea, Portsmouth and Wimbledon, London (January 19)

The closures are part of plans from the struggling retailer to close 50 branches across the UK, potentially seeing more than 1,200 job losses.

Once the closures are complete Debenhams will have around 116 stores in the UK.

The Advertiser reported last year there were major fears for the future of Debenhams in Redditch after the firm went into administration.
