A DUDLEY woman who feared she may lose her eyesight after being diagnosed with diabetes has shed the pounds to completely reverse her condition.

Claire Dey from Russells Hall was diagnosed with diabetes in April and immediately set her mind to lose weight.

The diagnosis was particularly troubling for Claire as she has seen first-hand how the condition has affected her mother, who suffers with glaucoma in both eyes.

The 42-year-old credits her time with Slimming World for helping her regain her health, as she has shed three and half stone since joining.

Claire said: "Three weeks ago I went back to the doctor and was told that the diabetes has been completely reversed.

"I left the doctor with a pack of leaflets for Slimming World as he was so interested in how I had achieved it."

Claire's mother, who worked as a nurse, suffers from sight loss and was at risk of having her legs amputated due to diabetes.

She added: "I've seen my mom lose her independence. I never want to lose my independence."

Claire says her success has been down to a change of habits and altering the way she cooks food.

Now she is determined to help others lose weight by launching her own Slimming World group, which meets at Wall Heath Evangelical Free Church.

Claire said: "I know the struggle to lose weight, I want to help people."

Claire's group meets every Tuesday at 5.30pm, starting from November 19.
