FOUR men have been arrested in connection with a string of burglaries across the Black Country targeted at the elderly.

The men aged 43, 28, 25 and 20 were all arrested in the Goldthorn area of Wolverhampton last night, October 17, on suspicion of conspiracy to burgle.

They all remain in police custody today.

Detectives hunting those responsible believe more offenders could still be at large.

Burglaries against a deaf 89-year-old man in Amblecote and an 89-year-old woman in Dudley were reported last weekend.

This week more burglaries have been reported across the Black Country, with 29 burglaries against the elderly reported since the beginning of the month.

Jewellery and cash has mainly been stolen in the burglaries, which have tended to take place between 6pm and 9pm, with thieves often gaining entry to homes by pretending to be police officers or workers from utility boards.

Chief Superintendent Sally Bourner said: "Although the arrests are a significant development, I am still urging the community to remain vigilant in their neighbourhoods and to continue to look out for each other.

“This remains a top priority for police in the Black Country at present and there’s a dedicated team of detectives working round the clock to identify those responsible for this terrible series of break in’s targeting elderly, vulnerable people in our communities.

"If someone calls at your door and you’re not expecting anyone, ask for their I.D but if you’re still unsure, I would encourage you to please call us."
