HEREFORD Allotment and Leisure Gardeners’ Society’s annual awards ceremony saw keen growers of all ages come together to celebrate another successful and productive year.

Allotment gardeners from the society’s several sites located across the city were joined by the Mayor of Hereford, Kath Hey, at the annual prizegiving event.

The hotly contested competition saw an entire year’s worth of hard work and careful planning come under scrutiny, as the allotments were judged for their range and variety of produce and their upkeep.

The society’s children’s competition saw carefully constructed miniature gardens judged by hundreds of visitors to the society’s stall in High Town last month.

The society works to promote allotment keeping across the city, welcoming both novice growers and experienced allotmenteers.

And with ever more people becoming interested in reconnecting with their food and environment, these green oases are a vital resource for city residents.
