A GORNAL man received a suspended jail term for possessing a seven inch knife in public at Dudley Magistrate's Court.
Dwayne Ledigster, aged 19, of Chilton Close, Lower Gornal, pleaded guilty to possessing a seven inch knife in a public place without lawful authority or a reasonable excuse. He received a eight week sentence suspended for 18 months and was ordered to pay costs of £185 and a £115 surcharge.
The following cases were also heard at Dudley Magistrate's Court last week.
Stephen Dean, aged 51, of Birchfield Lane, Oldbury, pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer acting in the exercise of her duty. He was fined £80 and was ordered to pay £75 in compensation, a £30 surcharge and £135 costs.
Daryl Fisher, aged 27, of Grange Road, Dudley, pleaded guilty to driving above the specified drug limit; failing to stop the car when asked by a police officer; driving without insurance and driving without a licence. He received a community order including a curfew with three months of electronic monitoring. He was also ordered to pay an £85 surcharge and £135 costs and was disqualified from holding a driving licence for 12 months.
Ricky Fitzgerald, aged 25, of Harmon Road, Stourbridge, pleaded guilty to assaulting a police constable acting in the exercise of his functions as such a worker and resisting a police constable in the execution of his duty. He was ordered to pay fines, surcharge and costs totalling £825.
Leigh-Anne Brownhill, aged 33, of Park Road, Lower Gornal, pleaded guilty to stealing £71 worth of meat from Aldi in Dudley. She received a community order and was ordered to pay £105 in fines and surcharges.
Jamil Hart, aged 24, of Chesnut Avenue, Dudley, pleaded guilty to stealing £24 worth of items from Poundland. He received a 12 month conditional discharge and was ordered to pay a £20 surcharge and £50 costs.
Steven Wood, aged 23, of Stourbridge Road, Dudley, pleaded guilty to driving over the legal alcohol limit. He was ordered to pay a fine, surcharge and costs totalling £795. He was also disqualified from holding a driving licence for 28 months.
Balraj Dhillon, aged 21, of The Lenches, Oldbury, pleaded guilty to possessing an extendable lockable baton in a public place without lawful authority. He was fined £300 and also ordered to pay a £30 surcharge and £185 costs.
Declan Phipps, aged 36, of High Street, Brierley Hill, pleaded guilty to possessing a weapon designed or adapted for the discharge of PAVA gas. He was ordered to pay a fine, surcharge and costs totalling £335.
Stuart Round, aged 30, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to stealing three bottles of alcohol worth £32.70 from Tesco in Cradley Heath and admitted to failing to provide a drug sample when in police detention. He was jailed for eight weeks due to offending while on post sentence supervision. He was also ordered to pay a £115 surcharge.
