A PROJECT to build new council bungalows in Stourbridge is now complete, bosses at the authority have said.

Twelve one and two bedroom bungalows have been built on land in Crowle Drive as part of Dudley Council’s bid to build hundreds of new council homes.

Costing £1.8m, the development which has been helped along with £411,000 of grant funding from the Black Country LEP, has been completed on time and includes a mix of bungalows and dormer bungalows.

Councillor Keiran Casey, Dudley's cabinet member for housing and residents’ welfare, said: "We have a limited number of bungalows within our housing stock and they are in such high demand, either from people looking to downsize in later life or those who need a property that can provide modern, high quality level access accommodation.

"These days it’s relatively uncommon for developers to build bungalows but we’re bucking the trend in Dudley so we can meet the needs of more local people.

"We’ve already built a number of bungalows as part of previous developments, but this is the first time we’ve been able to solely concentrate on them.

"The new homes complement the properties around them and I hope the new tenants will be very happy in them.”

The new homes, which are equipped to accommodate people with different physical needs, have been advertised online to people on the council’s waiting list.

People are expected to move in over the coming weeks.

Planning applications for a further 41 council homes on five sites across the borough were also recently granted.

They include eight houses off Portway Close, Kingswinford, 14 houses off Stewarts Road, Halesowen, six houses off Uplands Road, Dudley, three houses off Kinfare Rise, Upper Gornal, and eight houses and two bungalows off Worcester Road, Netherton.

They will be built on former council-owned garage sites or pockets of land that were identified as ripe for development.
