A NETHERTON schoolboy has won Mike Wood MP's annual Christmas card competition.

Harvey Farmer of Netherton CofE Primary School came first in the Dudley South MP's competition, which saw over 700 children from the constituency submit their festive designs.

Harvey's card shows Father Christmas going head-first down a chimney and it will be showcased on the front of Mike Wood's card that will be sent to community groups, organisations, businesses, councillors and MPs in Westminster, including Prime Minister Theresa May.

Six runner-up entries will also be featured on the back of the card.

Mike Wood said: “I received some outstanding entries again this year from our hugely talented local children, which gave me the immensely difficult job of choosing a winner and six runners-up.

“Harvey’s design was fantastic and really made me chuckle when I first saw it, so thank you very much to him.”

“I’m sure local people and organisations in Dudley South will be equally impressed by our young artists and I will certainly send a card off to Buckingham Palace, so you never know, maybe the children’s designs will be up on the Queen’s mantelpiece this Christmas.”

Mike Wood visited schools that took part in the competition to thank children for their efforts.

Harvey and the runners up will attend a presentation ceremony at Merry Hill on December 15, where they will presented with their prizes that have been donated by intu, the Black Country Living Museum, Dudley Zoo and Cadbury World.
