ROTARY club members were able to add another string to their bow when they were encouraged to join in with a ukulele show with a difference.

Stourbridge Rotary Club recently welcomed two local amateur uke groups - The Stourbridge U3A Ukulele and Singing Group and the Wollaston Ukulele Players.

A spokesman said: "Hawaiian garlands were aplenty, along with some spare ukuleles.

"Club members more than played their part; nine of them bravely volunteered to accept a one-hour crash-course in ukulele playing, led by Keith Picken, the leader of the two groups.

"They then took part in the playing and singing that followed. All in all there were 23 ukuleles playing at any one time."

Andrew Scudamore, club president, added: “It was so good to see members of the club joining in enthusiastically to be part of the ukulele playing and singing."
