Poetry in a tea cup

Ten of Evesham’s independent cafes and tea shops have worked with one of Evesham’s best known poets, Sue Johnson, and local photographer, Angela Fitch, to create a book of poetry and local images which brings a new dimension to the independent heart of the bustling town centre.

Sue Johnson says:

“It must have been about a year ago when Angela and I were talking about how difficult it must be to run a shop on the high street. The competition of out of town retailing and the internet has never been stronger, but there are some really good businesses in Evesham and it’s everyone’s job to support them. We decided to take a slightly different approach, leading us to ask some of the tea shops and cafes to see if they would like to take part in a poetry project and to our great delight we have now launched The Evesham Cafe Collection.”

Sue and Angela worked hard, whilst they were enjoying the tea and cake and the wide variety of cafes that took part in the project. Today, The Evesham Cafe Collection, a colourful book of wittily observed poetry is on sale throughout the town and will make a perfect stocking filler, especially for friends and family who have moved away from the area but like to stay in touch.

Angela Fitch says:

“We couldn’t have done it without the support of the cafes and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them all for their warm welcomes and delicious cake!”
