MOVE over the Albert Hall, because a Ledbury audience has just enjoyed its own version of The Last Night of the Proms, at the town's Market Theatre, while the flags and bunting fluttered.

A spokesman for the event, which took place on Saturday, September 29, said: "This tribute to the last night of the world’s greatest music festival featured all the traditional flag-waving tunes, as well as favourites from the brass band repertoire.

"This was an evening of music, singing and fun with opportunities for audience participation under the baton of Colin Herbert."

In the audience, and taking photographs, was local resident Jan Long, who said: "Ledbury did London with its own version of The Last Night of the Proms, performed in stunning style by the Ledbury Brass Band playing to a full house at the Ledbury Market Theatre.

"The brass band saw members of the audience dressed in posh attire and fancy hats, enthusiastically entering into the spirit of the Proms by waving masses of union flags."

The programme included popular favourites including Jerusalem, Amazing Grace, the National Anthem, Land of Hope and Glory.

Mrs Long said: "This was led by soloist Bridget Snasdell, and it had music fans singing and applauding concluding with a standing ovation to illustrate their appreciation of extraordinary talent, great fun and excitement.

"Musical Director Colin Herbert who gave a solo performance playing the euphonium, clearly enjoying every moment, commented that the band was formed in 2010 and has gone from strength to strength."

Ledbury Community Brass Band has appeared at many of Ledbury’s public events such as the Carnival, Remembrance Sunday and other community occasions.

The band enjoys the continued support of music lovers everywhere, and there will be another opportunity to hear the members in action at Ledbury Market Theatre for their Christmas Special on Sunday December 16 at 7.30pm.

This will feature "a mix of carols and other Christmas favourites".
