WORK is set to begin next month on more than 240 new homes in Worcester.

The site, known as Pear Tree Fields, is situated between Tayor’s Lane and the A4440 Southern Link Road, and is being developed by St Modwen, who are planning to build a mixture of 2, 3, 4 and 5 bed houses.

Subject to planning, there will be 244 homes built in total on the site.

Jo Winston, sales and marketing director at St. Modwen Homes, said: “With so many things to do and see in the local area, Worcester is a great place to settle.

“We’re expecting a great deal of interest in this development, so it’s essential that anyone interested in these new homes gets in contact with our Sales team to book a virtual or in person appointment before the launch on December 5.”

St Modwen is advertising the site as “the perfect place for first-time buyers, growing families and commuters” and highlights its transport links to Worcester City Centre and nearby schools.

Phase one of the development involves 36 homes to the north of Taylor’s Lane and to the south of Broomhall Way (A4440) with the others to come in future.

Plans for the site were approved back in 2017, when St Modwen was given permission to build 255 homes.

When the plans were being reviewed, concerns were raised as to the location of the site, with Kempsey Parish Council saying it feared the homes would become “isolated” from the rest of the planned urban extension, saying it did not seem to connect with other nearby developments.

In its objection, the parish council said: “St Modwen’s plans show total reliance on Taylor’s Lane as the only access to their site.

“There appears to be no future planning for any roads link up with the much larger Welbeck site to cater for private and public transport.”

The huge developments, which form part of urban extensions to the west and south of Worcester and were approved between 2017 and January last year, include a massive £500 million, 2,204-home ‘super village between St Peter’s and Kempsey, the 255-homes plan between the A4440 on the edge of the city and Taylor’s Lane and two massive plans in Lower Broadheath near Worcester which totals 2,365 homes.

The plans for phase one were approved on September 30 and the site is set to launch on December 5.
