OVERNIGHT road closures and temporary traffic lights are scheduled in Kidderminster next month to allow for surfacing works as part of the Churchfields Highway Improvement Scheme.

Works to make improvements to transport links in the Churchfields area of Kidderminster are progressing well, the county council has said, with an important part of the scheme already in operation.

One of the key elements of the project is the new link access from the A456 Ringway roundabout through to Churchfields, which opened in August.

Works have also taken place to convert part of Churchfields into an A-road and works to redesign the gyratory at the Horsefair and change Blackwell Street to a one-way system are ongoing.

Councillor Ken Pollock, Worcestershire County Council's cabinet member for economy and infrastructure, said: "It’s pleasing to see such good progress being made on this important scheme to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow in the area.

“The works have changed the area completely and I look forward to seeing the difference it makes once the works are completed, ahead of new housing being developed in the area."

To allow works to progress, overnight road closures are planned at the A456 St Marys Ringway between the Sainsbury’s junction and the A451 Stourbridge Road, Blackwell Street, Churchfields and the Horsefair while surfacing works are carried out.

Closures will be in place from Sunday, November 8 from 8pm to 5am for up to 10 nights, excluding weekends.

During the day, the junction will be open under temporary traffic lights. Diversions will be in place during the closures.

There will be some disruption and noise, due to the nature of the works.

The council said it "will do all we can to keep this to a minimum".
