TWO Worcester schools have sent year groups home after individuals tested positive for coronavirus.

Some pupils from year 5 and year 6 at Northwick Manor Primary School, in Northwick Road, have been sent home after a teaching assistant tested positive for the virus.

Also, year 9 pupils from RGS Worcester, in Upper Tything, have been sent home after a student tested positive for coronavirus.

John Pitt, headteacher, said:“Our priority at RGS Worcester is always pupil safety and we have followed the Local Outbreak Response Team's advice in this case in every aspect.

“The pupil and family who tested positive for Covid-19 are coping well and we send them our best wishes.

“Our Year Nine pupils will receive expert remote teaching during this period from our hard working and extremely dedicated teachers.

“We would like to thank our parents, pupils and staff for all their support during this challenging time for everyone.”

Dr Kathryn Cobain, Director for Public Health for Worcestershire said: “An individual from Northwick Manor Primary School has tested positive for COVID19.

"This case was quickly identified, and the school is being supported by Public Health. Additional measures have been put in place to protect the school and help minimise any further disruption.

"Close contacts have been identified and traced, they are now also self-isolating for 14 days in line with guidance and will continue their learning through home access learning.”
