A PRIMARY school has launched a challenge for its children and families to get cooking together.

At Hollymount School, in Worcester, the staff have been busy putting together a selection of recipes they enjoy cooking at home and are encouraging children and their families to get involved.

The challenge was organised by year 2 teacher Lauren Amos.

Miss Amos said: “The cooking challenge was inspired by our teachers having a conversation about how much they miss our 'inspire' sessions we normally hold in school where we invite family members to come in and learn with their children for a session each half term.

“Without being able to invite parents and families into school at the moment we had to get creative.

“The challenge was launched during an assembly about harvest where the children shared their learning.”

Miss Amos said the schoolchildren have been learning about a variety of different topics.

In reception and key stage 1 the children have been tasting fruit, making apple crumble and preparing ingredients for a healthy soup - all linked to story books and their topic work.

In key stage 2 children have been making soup, fajitas and looking at where food comes from and taking a deeper look at what is in food including calories, carbohydrates and sugars.

The challenge was launched to the children during a virtual harvest festival at school via Microsoft Teams.

Miss Amos said: “This has all been shared on the website for families to enjoy.

“We are very proud of how our children and families are coping with the changes since coming back to school in September and are so pleased to be able to still continue sharing events (something we truly value) in a safe way.”

Some of the popular cooking dishes include spaghetti bolognaise, mushroom risotto, and baked feta and tomato pasta.

The recipes have been shared on the school webpage and via the school’s Facebook page if you want to check it out https://m.facebook.com/HollymountSchool/
