ORGANISATIONS have been praised after rallying round to support a key community project in Droitwich.

The Cabin, which is currently under construction, will host adult education programmes, community and family information meetings, as well as meetings and events staged by the police, social care, special needs groups, the health service and other local organisations.

Matt Nicol, chair of Droitwich Means Business, said the joint bid by Droitwich Spa Town Council, Droitwich Means Business and Droitwich Spa High School for a share of the £3 million Wychavon Community Legacy Grant scheme, had resulted in £120,000 in grant funding for the project.

He said: “The money granted was always on the basis that further fundraising would be required from the community and businesses and school.

“The bid was very quickly supported by King George V CIC Sports Association who kindly donated £5,000.

“Nicol & Co has also donated £3000 towards the project alongside fundraising of £7,500 from Droitwich Spa High School and support from Droitwich Town Council who have provided a construction costs contingency fund representing 10% of the build costs. This means the town has now successfully raised more than £15,000 allowing the project to proceed.

“The Cabin build is well underway, and I recently visited the site to present Paul Buckell with the cheque for £3,000 from the Nicol & Co Community Fund.

“As a former pupil of the High School myself and Chair of Droitwich Means Business it is great to see this project attracting generous local support and progressing so well.”

The facility, once complete, will be managed by a committee of 6 comprised of 2 representatives from Droitwich Spa Town Council, Droitwich Means Business and Droitwich Spa High School.

The next phase of fundraising will be to buy equipment for The Cabin and anybody interested in providing support should contact Paul Buckell at the school.

Droitwich Means Business is a local business group co-founded by Matt Nicol made up of a number of key business owners, local employers and business leaders formed with the purpose of putting Droitwich Spa back on the map and creating a connected community.
