A SIXTH person has been charged in the investigation into the death of Aya Hachem in Blackburn.

Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), Ayaz Hussain, 34, of, Calgary Avenue, Blackburn has been charged with Aya’s murder and the attempted murder of who officers think was the intended target of the shooting, Pashar Khan.

He will appear before magistrates in Preston tomorrow (Monday, May 25th).

Aya, 19, was shot in broad daylight last Sunday as she was out shopping close to the Lidl supermarket on King Street in Blackburn.

Fourteen people were arrested in the days after her death, with five men and a woman now charged.

Police are reminding people that they still need information.

The officer leading the investigation, Det Supt Andy Cribbin, from Lancashire’s Force Major Investigation Team (FMIT) said: “Aya died a week ago today and a lot has happened in that time. Our investigation has moved at a fast pace, which has seen us arrest 14 people and charge six, with one person being released no charge and the others either bailed or released under investigation.

“But our inquiry is far from over. Our resolve and determination to get to the bottom of what happened and who was responsible for Aya’s needless and senseless death remains as strong as ever.

“I would like to thank Aya’s family and the public for their support, as well as the people who have been in touch with information and the many officers and detectives who are working extremely hard on this investigation.

“Despite the arrests and charges, we still need your help. I am still asking anyone with dash cam footage who was driving along the A666, between Ewood in Blackburn and Bolton and vice versa, around 2pm to 4pm last Sunday (May 17th), to send it to us.

“Similarly, if you think you may know something that could help but you haven’t been in touch yet, I would urge you to do so as soon as you can. You could know something that is vital to our investigation.”

Any information or video footage in relation to this inquiry can still be sent via the Major Incident Public Portal at https://mipp.police.uk/operation/0401020120E05-PO1
