A MAN has died after collapsing in a town centre street early this morning.
Police were called to Sankey Street shortly after 6.30am today, Tuesday, after receiving reports of a man having fallen ill.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to Warrington Hospital, where he died later in the morning.
The street was cordoned off until around 9am between Market Gate and the Poundland store while officers investigated the incident, but his death is not believed to be suspicious.
His next of kin have been informed.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “At 6.40am on Tuesday, February 18, police were called to Sankey Street following reports of a man collapsed in the street.
“He was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to Warrington Hospital.
“Sadly, the man died later that morning.
“The area was temporarily cordoned off while police investigated the circumstances.
“Enquiries have concluded that the death is not believed to be suspicious.
“Next of kin are being informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
