POLICE were called by the coroner after a man with Down's syndrome was fatally injured in a fall last month.
John Andrew Troy, who was 54, was seriously hurt at his assisted living accommodation in Stour Road, Christchurch.
He died at Poole Hospital on January 7.
An inquest into Mr Troy's death was opened and adjourned at the coroner's court in Bournemouth on Wednesday.
Coroner Rachael Griffin said Mr Troy had been seen to fall down the stairs.
"He suffered bad head injuries and a collapsed lung," she said.
"Police attended and an investigation into the fall continues."
A post-mortem examination was not carried out. However, a provisional cause of death has been given as traumatic head injury caused by a fall.
The court heard contributing factors were rib fractures, dementia, Down's syndrome, a previous traumatic head injury and pneumothorax, otherwise known as a collapsed lung.
A full inquest will take place in August.
A spokesperson from Dorset Police said: "Officers were not called to attend the incident on January 7 2020.
"Officers have been carrying out enquiries on behalf of the coroner.
"At this stage, there is nothing to suggest any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death."
