CHAIRMAN Steve Goode has issued a rallying cry for all roads to lead to Atherstone for City’s date with FA Vase destiny.

Worcester hit the road bidding to negotiate the first of three hurdles between them and a Wembley final, travelling to face giantkillers Atherstone Town in the last 16 on Saturday, February 8 (3pm).

City fans are expected to further bolster a bumper gate for the all-Midland Football League (MFL) fifth-round tie at Sheepy Road with the club extending its usual travel provision.

Places on a 52-seat coach are available for just £10 for those daring to dream that City, currently ninth favourites at 16-1 to lift the silverware, could upset the odds on the back of victories over Wellington, Highgate United, Pinchbeck United, Dunkirk, United Counties League leaders Shepshed Dynamo and MFL title chasers Coventry United.

“This is the biggest game for a number of years, mainly because it is a competition we are well capable of winning,” said Goode.

“There is no one left that is any better than us, we are all from the same level and I personally believe our league is stronger than a lot of the others.

“It is a great opportunity for the players to try to get to Wembley and something for the supporters to cheer about.

“It has been a long seven years away from Worcester and this would be a great advert for the city as well as making people aware that the football club still exists.

“If we can beat Atherstone and manage to go further – and I don’t like talking too far in advance – I think people will realise again just how well supported this club is, especially if we can go all the way to Wembley.”

The coach leaves Croft Road car park near Worcester Racecourse at 12.30pm with places available via the club website: www.worcestercityfc.org/payments

Those booking online need to register on the website. Bookings can also be made by calling 01905 23003.

“We have two minibuses filled and I am told the coach is already a quarter full,” added Goode.

“Supporters can book seats through the web page or by phoning the club number, preferably online but those who don’t really use the internet can give us a ring.”

Meanwhile, the club has moved to quell any potential for boisterous behaviour in advance.

“As a supporter-owned club we are all equally responsible for upholding the reputation of Worcester City FC,” read a statement on the club website.

“We are all ambassadors wherever we go and the football club would like to kindly ask that supporters attending on the day are conscious of representing the club with respect, good nature, friendliness and of course passion.”
