THE Mayor of Worcester is hosting a free event at the recently refurbished Battenhall Rise play area.

Free face painting, goodie bags and healthy snacks will be available for the first 100 children who come to the Battenhall Rise play site on Saturday, July 20 between 10.00am and midday.

Worcester City Council has completely revamped the play area, installing new swings, a see saw, balance beam and climbing equipment.

The area is ideal for pre and primary school aged children. It has been resurfaced to improve safety, and is decorated with colourful and interactive floor markings.

The work was carried out in partnership with St. Peter’s Parish Council.

Battenhall Rise is one of 45 play areas which the city council owns and operates across Worcester.  The authority is working on improvements to a number of them over the next 12 months.

“It’s more important than ever to ensure children have spaces in their neighbourhood where they can enjoy exciting outdoor play,” says Cllr Andy Stafford, Vice Chair of Worcester City Council’s Environment Committee.

“We are committed to providing well maintained play areas right across the city, where children can have free fun, spend time with friends and get exercise in the open air.”

Over the last few months the City Council has refurbished play areas at Trotshill Lane East; Weir Lane and Old Tolladine Road.

Improvements are also planned for Fort Royal, Howard Road, Debdale Avenue, Bodiam Close, Bishops Avenue and Cornmeadow Lane play areas later in the year.

The City Council is also currently carrying out consultation with local residents in order to improve the play area situated in Sheldon Park Road in Claines.
