TRIBUTES have been paid to a city councillor who has died.
Councillor Stuart Denlegh-Maxwell, who represented Claines ward on Worcester City Council, has died.
City council colleagues have paid tribute to Cllr Denlegh-Maxwell who first served as city councillor for Claines more than 30 years ago.
Cllr James Stanley, fellow Conservative and ward councillor in Claines, tweeted: "Extremely saddened to hear yesterday of the death of my colleague and friend Stuart Denlegh-Maxwell. I did learn from him that it's best to keep your sense of humour while all around you others lose theirs. Will be missed."
Cllr Louise Griffiths tweeted: "This is truly devastating news. Stuart was a wonderful friend, mentor and colleague and he will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him."
Cllr Richard Udall tweeted: "Very sad news, we are all shocked and upset. I knew Stuart for nearly 30 years; we often agreed on many issues, he was a gentleman with a unique and very dry sense of humour. I will miss him."
Worcester MP Robin Walker tweeted: "Desperately sad to hear of Stuart's passing away, he was a lovely man, a brilliant councillor for Claines and a constant source of wisdom, good humour and support."
Cllr Andy Roberts tweeted: "Tragic news is breaking about the sudden death of Councillor Stuart Denlegh-Maxwell the city councillor for Claines ward, who also had a long time involvement with St Richard's Hospice."
Cllr Denlegh-Maxwell represented Claines ward between 1988 and 1994 and was re-elected in 2018.
A meeting of the city council's licensing and environmental health committee, which Cllr Denlegh-Maxwell was due to attend, was cancelled on Monday (June 10).
