SCHOOLS in Worcester have been taking part in a weekly fitness campaign ‘Worcs Girls Can’ this week.

As a part of the Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire, the campaign was set up to encourage fitness and tackle judgement that prevents women and girls taking part in physical activity.

Josh Skinner, project manager for Children and Young People's programmes at the Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire, said: “We want to break down these barriers for our young women and help them uncover what their motivations may be for taking part in sport and physical activity.”

The lead schools in Worcester are Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College and Tudor Grange Academy Worcester, who had a range of activities over the course of the week alongside other schools across the county.

Students took part in activities including mountain biking, yoga, tennis, aerobics and dance.

Gemma Ingram, PE teacher at Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College said: “It has been a display of teamwork by the girls and they’ve grown in confidence and have all round been having fun.

“It has been absolutely amazing; an emotional week but we’re over the moon with how well it has gone.

“It’s a good opportunity for the girls even if they have a go in school and then do another class outside, they could join the gym or go to dance classes.”

Year 10 students took part in a glow-in-the-dark exercise class on Thursday.
