ORGANISERS have rebuffed claims Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy will be at a charity boxing event at Worcester Guildhall.

The organisers have responded to rumours on social media, which spread like wildfire, that the star would be attending the Peaky Fighters event on Saturday March 24, organised by Worcester Charity Boxing Association (WCBA).

Tom Whitby, who set up WCBA with colleagues Adam Llewelyn and Adam Woodward, said: “We have never indicated that Cillian Murphy would be in attendance. All we can do is apologise.”

Tickets for the event, which has a 1920s-40s dress code, sold out in just hours and so a second date has now been added – on Saturday March 31.

He added: “The majority of our boxers are the general public that we train to box to raise money for charity, and we have no control or access to their social media.

“Although, we can imagine this is a disappointment we would strongly encourage people to ask us directly before making any assumptions on the night.

“The event is a 1920s themed event and aims to raise thousands of pounds for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.”

Speaking to the Worcester News, prankster Gareth Hall, who posted to his friends on Facebook, Cillian Murphy would be at the event, said: “For all those that know me know I joke and mess about and the comment was purely banter. Can you imagine if people believed everything said on Facebook? But fingers crossed he might see this and make an appearance.”

Tickets priced at £30 are still available from WCBA Facebook page or eventbrite.co.uk/e/peaky-fighters-worcester-day-3-tickets-42346727201.
