IF you're looking for somewhere special to go with family or friends, then look no further than Fazenda.

Located on Colmore Row, Fazenda Birmingham is the latest addition to the flourishing restaurant scene in the heart of the financial district.

Fusing century-old gaúcho traditions and rodizio dining, it offers a mouthwatering array of different meats, served the traditional Brazilian way.

The restaurant has a fast growing a reputation for top class dining.

And it's a reputation well deserved.

My partner and I called in after a busy day so we were looking forward to enjoying a nice sit down and some good food.

We went for the full rodizio menu, and a bottle of Catena Appellation Paraje Altamira Malbec as recommended by staff.

We started at the salad bar, which had traditional hot and cold dishes, fresh vegetables, salads, cured meats, continental cheeses, and several other options to accompany meals.

When you are ready for the meat, all you have to do is simply flip a card on your table from red to green and the Passadores (meat chefs) will bring skewers of sizzling meat over one by one - and it is carved at the table.

The red side of the card indicates you would simply like to enjoy each other's company without interruption.

To resume service, simply show the green side again.

The main menu contains a range of steaks, spicy chorizio, pork collar and sausage, gammon, chicken, chicken with bacon, and for the not too squeamish chicken hearts, a typical Brazilian and Argentinian barbecue favourite.

We're both suckers for beef, usually with all the trimmings, so the standout meats were the beef tenderloin which was succulent, tender and lean, and the picanha, or cap of rump, which was delicate, juicy and full of flavour.

We needed little excuse to go back for some more of these. And even thirds.

Everything that came over both looked and tasted stunning.

Despite it being quite a busy evening the meat chefs came around regularly and our drinks were topped up quickly.

We just about managed to squeeze in dessert, five Brazilian classic mini desserts, and a Caipirinha.

I never thought I'd finish the sweet treats, then took one taste before wolfing down every last one without a hint of guilt or regret.

Nothing was too much trouble for the more than accommodating staff and we went away saying we would definitely recommend Fazenda to friends and family.

While not ideal for vegetarians and vegans, (it makes no bones about being a haven for meat lovers), it is well suited to a variety of special occasions and even conference needs.

It is worth pointing out it does gave have a vegan, vegetarian, and pescetarian menu.
