Location

The village of Clun lies in the south western corner of Shropshire, surrounded by hills and lying alongside the River Clun. It is thought that people lived here as far back as the Bronze Age making Clun one of the most ancient settlements of the country. In 'A Shropshire Lad', A.E. Housman wrote the verse: Clunton and Clunbury, Clungunford and Clun, Are the quietest places Under the sun. It is divided in two by the 15th century Packhorse Bridge, the ancient part of Clun on the south and the newer Norman town on the north and is surrounded by the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are walks on the doorstep, including the 1200-year-old Offas Dyke and the Offas Dyke Path, a National Trail 177 miles long. Clun Castle, which overlooks the town and is the perfect scenic picnic spot, was established by the Norman lord Robert de Say after the Norman invasion of England.

There are two public houses, cafes, petrol station, a number of shops including a butchers and a small convenience store with a post office and a primary school. Regular and well attended activities are held in the village hall. Close by is Craven Arms which offers a number of shops, post office and garage. Slightly further afield is the medieval town of Ludlow which offers considerable facilities; both commercial and leisure and primary and senior schools and further education at Ludlow College. Also nearby is Bedstone College, a fully co-educational independent boarding and day school catering for children between the ages of 4 to 18 years set in 40 acres of beautiful grounds.
