Hushovd wins sprint

Norway's Thor Hushovd won a sprint finish to claim Stage Six of the Tour de France.

The Cervelo rider came from deep to cruise past Oscar Freire, Jose Joauin Rojas and Gerald Ciolek with metres to spare to win his first stage of the Tour - a 181km jaunt in rainy Spain from Girona to Barcelona.

It looked for the world that Britain's David Millar was going to be victorious when he launched a solo break 29km out, having been one of three members of an early breakaway. The Scot was caught around 1km out, though.

Fabian Cancellara finished 10th to retain the yellow jersey - while the other big guns high up in the general classification, such as Astana duo Lance Armstrong and Alberto Contador, were among the first group of the peloton.

Hushovd, who finished in a time of four hours 21 minutes and 33 seconds, did not do enough to take the green jersey off Britain's Mark Cavendish - who came home in 16th place.
