THERE is an “aura” around Worcester Wolves as they continue their stunning run of form across three competitions.

That’s the view of buoyant boss Paul James who believes he is working with possibly his “most talented” Wolves team ever.

Worcester have won 11 of their last 12 games, reaching the BBL Cup final and BBL Trophy semis in the process.

Manchester Giants will now be faced with the task of tackling in-form Wolves at the University of Worcester Arena tonight (7.30pm).

And James is confident of keeping the ball rolling as seventh-placed Worcester look to climb the British Basketball League.

“I am delighted with the way we are playing,” said James who has been head coach at Worcester since 2009.

“I think we are creating an aura around the team where nobody wants to play us — and that can only be a good thing.

“We have shown that if we are having a bad night offensively we can get the defensive stops we need to get the win.

“If teams want to mix it up with us and be a bit more physical we have got the bodies to do that as well.

“We have consistently grown as a team throughout the season and with the addition of Mike Ojo and Rob Gilchrist they have given us other dimensions.

“Everybody is very excited about this group of players right now. It’s probably the most talented team we have ever had here.”

Ojo (finger), George Beamon (ankle) and Brandon Parrish (ankle) are all carrying injuries but are expected to play “some part” against Manchester.

Dallin Bachynski will hope to extend his hot streak as he was named in the BBL All-Stars Five after notching 20 points, 13 rebounds and four assists in Worcester’s win over Bristol Flyers last week.

Impressive showings from Alex Navajas and Gilchrist also saw them gain places off the bench in the team of the week.

With just over a week to go before Worcester take on Cheshire Phoenix in the BBL Cup final on Sunday, January 28, James is wary of his players picking up any knocks.

But he has stressed the importance of seeing off struggling Giants who have lost 12 of their 14 league games.

“We are not going to take this game lightly,” said James whose side have beaten Manchester in the league and trophy this term.

“We are still in every competition and this is a game we must win.

“We want to put on a performance as we want to go into that cup final with a lot of confidence.

“Manchester’s record is whatever it is but they have been competitive in a lot of their games and unfortunate.

“They have got some decent players and will play hard for 40 minutes.”
