GEORGE Beamon, Brandon Parrish and Mike Ojo are all expected to shake off injuries to play “some part” in Worcester Wolves’ home battle with Manchester Giants in the British Basketball League on Friday (7.30pm).

Beamon and Parrish are carrying ankle problems while Ojo sustained a dislocated finger in Wolves’ BBL Trophy win over Cheshire Phoenix last Sunday.

With just over a week to go before Worcester meet Cheshire at the Arena Birmingham in the BBL Cup final, head coach Paul James said he would need to manage the trio “carefully”.

But he was confident they would all be able to take to the court at the University of Worcester Arena to face Manchester.

“We have got Brandon and George with ankle injuries so we are just going to have to manage them through the next couple of weeks to make sure they are fit and healthy for the cup final,” James said.

“Unfortunately, Michael dislocated his little finger against Cheshire so that’s a situation we need to manage carefully too.

“But they’re not things that are going to keep them out from playing in the cup final or on the weekend.

“I think they’re going to need a game before the cup final.

“You don’t want to have two weeks off and all of a sudden you’re on that big stage in Birmingham in front of 10,000 people and have not played a competitive game for two weeks.

“They will play some part in the Manchester game because I feel they need that and then we have got the rest of the next week to make sure we do the final rehabilitation work with them ahead of the Cheshire game.”

Ojo’s injury blow comes just a week after he joined up with his new team-mates.

The ex-Plymouth Raiders guard marked his debut with a 19-point haul in Wolves’ 91-76 victory over Bristol Flyers last Friday.

He then rattled in the same points tally in the 97-90 triumph at Cheshire as Worcester progressed to the semi-finals of the Trophy.

“Michael has shown what a quality player he is, scoring 19 in both games,” James said.

“I think Friday’s game was a bit better than the Cheshire game but I don’t think anyone did particularly great on Sunday.

“Once he fully finds his feet he is going to be great.

“He is just working through that process but come the game against Manchester we will see a better Ojo again.”

James said it also helped having more than a week to prepare for their showdown with Cheshire on Sunday, January 28 (3.30pm).

“We were due to play Sheffield away next Friday but that game has now been moved so we have got a full week to really focus in on the cup final,” James added.

“It allows us to get everybody recharged so we are in peak condition going into it.”
