WORCESTER Wolves are “desperate” to win at Surrey Scorchers tonight (7pm) as they look to catch the teams above them.

They are four points inside the play-off places in seventh position after winning five of their last six games in the British Basketball League.

Surrey are one place and two points behind Wolves and head coach Paul James says it is important to make ground on sixth-placed London Lions who they trail by four points.

He said: “It is a very important game for us.

“We desperately want to win to not only separate ourselves from the teams below us but to also catch the teams above as we are not far off sixth, fifth or even fourth place.”

Wolves have played Surrey four times this season with James’ side winning both league clashes.

They avenged November’s BBL Cup defeat to Scorchers with an 86-82 victory in the BBL Trophy quarter-finals earlier this month.

But the Guildford team have won their last two league games, including a 99-75 thrashing of Plymouth Raiders.

“Surrey are a very tough team and going to be buoyed by their 24-point win over Plymouth,” James said.

“They are going to be very confident they can do the same against us. Surrey get a good crowd who are very loud, vocal and really get behind them.

“Regardless of the result (against Raiders in the BBL Trophy) on Friday we have to try to recover the players as quickly as we can for a huge game.”

Wolves then have two weeks to prepare to host Leeds Force in the league on Friday, March 10.

James added: “It would be great if we can finish this weekend with a positive result going into that mini-break and then we can recover the players properly looking for a big push at the end of the season.”
