MAURICE Walker and Andrew Bachman are expected to be fit to face Surrey Scorchers tonight despite missing training sessions (7.30pm).

Prolific points-scorer Walker has been struggling with a cold, while Worcester Wolves' small forward Bachman has been receiving treatment for “a back spasm”.

However, head coach Paul James insisted they would be fielding a “full-strength” side to tackle Scorchers at the University of Worcester Arena.

“There are a few niggles and a couple of guys who we had to rest so they can fully recover,” James said.

“Mo has had a cold and we didn’t want the rest of the group to catch it.

“With Andrew it is just a back spasm which is being sorted out so he has been feeling better every day.

“He played with it last weekend and came through so it is a matter of letting it settle down and ease the tension in his back.

“We will be full-strength and are looking forward to putting on another good performance.”

Last weekend Wolves stunned the league with victories at high-flying Newcastle Eagles and fourth-placed London Lions.

But James admitted their efforts came at a cost both “mentally” and “physically”, revealing they had to “shorten” training sessions this week.

“We didn’t get back from Newcastle until about 4am on Saturday and then we were back in that day to prepare for the London game on Sunday,” James said.

“It was tough mentally and physically. We wanted to continue with the way we have been training but we have to take into consideration the travelling we have been doing and the toll that might take.

“We have still been working as hard as usual but we have shortened the sessions slightly to give players time to recover.

“The fact we have got one game this weekend means we will be able to give everything we have got and hopefully come away with a win.”

Seventh-placed Wolves will look to secure three successive league wins for the first time this season when they take on Scorchers.

James’ men have already played Surrey twice at home with Wolves winning 90-82 in October before the visitors hit back with a 95-75 victory in the BBL Cup a month later.

After back-to-back wins Scorchers sit one place below Worcester with the same number of points.

James added: “This game has a lot of importance as they are in and around us fighting for a play-off spot.

“If we win we will get the head-to-head so it is almost like a four-pointer for us. There are plenty of incentives for both teams.

“Right now we are playing with a lot of confidence after beating two very good teams last weekend.

“If we apply ourselves in that way again there is no reason why we can’t go out there and do the same thing against Surrey.”
