WORCESTERSHIRE spinner Ben Twohig is poised to make his first-class debut in the three-day fixture with Leeds-Bradford MCCU at Royal Grammar School Worcester’s Flagge Meadow ground starting tomorrow (11am).

The former Malvern College pupil, who will be 20 next month, is included in a 12-strong squad by head coach Kevin Sharp.

Twohig spent six weeks this winter working on his game in India including a spell with several other Worcestershire players at the Global Cricket School in Mumbai.

He was then part of the County’s squad for the pre-season training camp in Abu Dhabi and played in the one-day red-ball friendly against Somerset at Taunton.

Twohig is also a useful lower-order batsman and last season had a spell captaining the seconds, predominantly in T20 cricket.

He is just starting the second season of a three-year contract through to the end of the 2019 campaign.

Joe Clarke will make his first County appearance of the winter after returning from his duties in the Caribbean with England Lions and the North in the three-match series against the South.

The same will apply for Ross Whiteley who was included in the squad for the three days of action against Gloucestershire at Bristol after his spell in the Pakistan Super League only for the weather to dash hopes of any play.

Paceman Steve Magoffin will play a first-class fixture for the County for the first time since his initial spell at Blackfinch New Road a decade ago.

All-rounder Brett D’Oliveira is unavailable as he will be heading back home after playing for the MCC against the Champion County Essex in Bridgetown.

Worcestershire defeated Leeds-Bradford MCCU by an innings and 42 runs when the two sides met 12 months ago with Clarke scoring a century.

Worcestershire: Mitchell, Rhodes, Fell, Clarke, Barnard, Cox, Whiteley, Leach, Twohig, Tongue, Magoffin, Morris.
