WORCESTERSHIRE seconds completed a T20 win double over Warwickshire at the Royal Grammar School Worcester with both sides using first teamers.

The hosts won the opening match by seven wickets with 5.5 overs to spare and the second game by five wickets with 2.5 overs overs remaining.

Play got under way an hour later than scheduled because of overnight rain.

In game one Worcestershire opted to bowl first and three wickets in six balls from Charlie Morris gave them a control they never relinquished.

Morris’ burst reduced Warwickshire to 42-4 and he finished with 3-27 as they were restricted to 116-8.

Only Robert Yates with 41 not out from 23 balls showed signs of acceleration.

Mitchell Santner and fellow spinner Zen Malik both registered identical figures of 4-0-18-2 while skipper Ben Cox pulled off two stumpings.

Santner struck a quick 32 off 17 deliveries and an unbroken stand of 56 between George Rhodes (46no off 25 balls) and Ollie Westbury (21no off 27 balls) steered Worcestershire home in 14.1 overs.

In game two Warwickshire were again put in and fared slightly better in scoring 146-8 with Matthew Lamb (40) top-scoring.

George Scrimshaw returned fine figures of 4-0-28-3 and Daryl Mitchell 4-0-18-1.

Worcestershire suffered an early innings wobble at 39-3 in reply but Ross Whiteley struck another five sixes in making 56 off 33 deliveries.

Ed Barnard (32no off 17 balls) partnered Whiteley in a fifth-wicket stand of 51 in 4.5 overs to seal victory.
