DARYL Mitchell has brought down the curtain on his 2016 benefit year and the Worcestershire opener has thanked everyone for their support including his committee.

Mitchell staged the final event at New Road on Friday evening - one of nearly 40 held during the past 11 months.

The 33-year-old admits it has been hectic and tiring at times particularly during the summer months when combining his cricketing duties but one that has also been enjoyable and "a learning curve."

Mitchell said: "It has been a good experience, a lot of hard work and quite time consuming at times but it has been a lot of fun as well.

"Some of the events have been really good and I have been fortunate to have a fantastic committee who have helped everything out.

"It has been a learning curve, definitely. I have learnt a few different life skills which hopefully will stand me in good stead going forward but overall it's been a great experience.

"I've attended all the events, getting on towards 40 by the time we've finished. I've got to meet a lot of new faces as well as seeing the old ones pretty regularly.

"What were the highlights? The Lord's dinner was special, being in the Long Room, the home of cricket. A special evening, a special venue, a fantastic night.

"The game at Bretforton as well. That is where it all started for me and to take a Worcestershire team down there was a pretty special day.

"Fortunately a lot of people turned out to watch and supported the club down there as well so that was great."

Mitchell admits running a successful benefit year is a different challenge in today's world compared to the mega bucks some players could be guaranteed in previous decades.

He said: "It has been difficult. I guess Worcester is not known for its corporate scene either so it has been hard at times and you tend to be going back to the same people for the different events.

"It is not easy but, like I say, it's been a challenge but it has been good fun as well.

"The off season bits are pretty straightforward. Once the cricket starts, it makes life a little bit more difficult with obviously your hands pretty full with cricket as well.

"But the support of everyone has been fantastic and thank you to everyone who has supported the year."
