WORCESTERSHIRE suffered more weather frustration when the second day of the Specsavers County Championship fixture with Kent at New Road was also abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Play was called off on the first day by umpires Richard Illingworth and Ian Gould at 3pm due to a waterlogged outfield after a deluge on Friday and persistent rain on Saturday.

There were more downpours last night and this morning which left pools of water on the outfield.

The umpires opted to make a pitch inspection at 12.30pm and were left with no alternative but to call off play for the day at that juncture.

Fixtures between Worcestershire and Kent have had a history of bad weather in recent years.

The 2007 game at New Road was abandoned without a ball being bowled after the infamous summer flood.

Then the match at Tunbridge Wells in 2014 was badly affected with minimal play on the second and third days and no play on the fourth day.
