WORCESTERSHIRE legend Graeme Hick has been appointed Australia's assistant coach for the one-day tri-series against West Indies and South Africa in June.

The former England batsman, who spent 25 years at New Road, will take over the role on a temporary basis.

Australia's head coach Darren Lehmann is taking a planned break and Justin Langer will coach the side.

Hick, who retired from playing in 2008, has been high performance coach at Australia's Cricket Australia's Centre of Excellence for the past three years.

He has worked closely with the Australia 'A' and Under-19 sides.

Hick was last seen at New Road in August 2015 with the Under-19 squad for an ODI against England.

He also featured in a question and answer evening with Worcestershire President Lord King of Lothbury.

Australia will first be in action against South Africa in Guyana on June 6.

The round-robin tournament sees each team play three matches against each opponent, with the top two contesting the June 26 final in Barbados.

Meanwhile, county sportsmen are expected to join in celebrations on Friday to mark the launch of New College Worcester’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

Representatives from New Road, Worcester Warriors and Worcester City are set to take part in a cricket match from 2.30pm.

All former students of the college are invited back for a day of reunion, activities and celebrations.
