PROP Nick Schonert is expected to be “back and ready for action” when Worcester Warriors visit Leicester Tigers in the Gallagher Premiership on Sunday (3pm).

The tighthead missed Warriors’ 23-20 loss to Newcastle Falcons on Saturday after a blow to his head in their league meeting at Sale Sharks.

Following his collision with Sale’s James Phillips, Schonert went off for 10 minutes to receive a head injury assessment (HIA) before being given the all-clear to return to play.

But the 26-year-old was then ruled out of Worcester’s Falcons battle with concussion.

As reported last week Sale boss Steve Diamond felt it was “strange” Schonert was allowed back onto the field as World Rugby state any clear or suspected signs of symptoms of concussion must result in “immediate and permanent player removal”.

But Solomons defended his “excellent” medical team and reckoned Schonert would be available to take on Tigers at Welford Road.

“He took the knock last week so he should be back and ready for action this weekend,” Solomons said.

“We have got excellent medical staff, both our team doctors are first-class.

“It is entirely up to them and I am happy to back any of our medical staff.

“If they look at an individual on a HIA and are happy for him to return then I don’t have any problems with that.

“I am not a doctor and they are qualified people. They make the decision, that’s the end of it.

“Obviously they weren’t confident with him playing so he didn’t play. Those decisions are totally out of my hands. The medics decide those things.”

Solomons will also hope Bryce Heem will be fit to face Leicester after the wing injured his ankle in Warriors’ defeat to Falcons.

“He had an ankle injury,” Solomons said. “I spoke to him at half-time and he just said he wasn’t confident enough to carry on.

“He is a brave guy but didn’t feel he could (continue) so he had to come off. We are going to have to see what he is like at the injury clinic.

“Remember we do have an eight-day turnaround (for the Leicester game).”
