WORCESTER Warriors wing Josh Adams has been called up to the Wales squad ahead of their two Tests against Argentina.

Adams comes in for Steff Evans who picked up a knee injury in Wales’ 22-20 win over South Africa in Washington DC on Saturday.

It will be a huge boost for 23-year-old Adams who was withdrawn by head coach Warren Gatland after he was deemed ineligible to play against the Springboks.

The tour opener took place outside World Rugby’s designated June window, meaning Warriors, one of the 12 Premiership Rugby clubs that agreed to the governing body’s regulations, could not release Adams.

But with Evans now ruled out of the two matches in Argentina this month Gatland has called upon the Sixways star who was last season’s joint top try-scorer in the Aviva Premiership.

Exeter Chiefs prop Tomas Francis who was denied a chance to face South Africa over the same rule for England-based players, has also been drafted in after Samson Lee suffered a blow to his lower back. Lee is receiving treatment and will remain on tour.

Adams and Francis will be hoping to feature for Wales when they take on Argentina on Saturday, June 9 and Saturday, June 16.
