DIRECTOR of rugby Alan Solomons says he will select his “best possible” side as Worcester Warriors look to finish their campaign off with a win at Northampton Saints on Saturday (4pm).

Warriors retained their Aviva Premiership status last Saturday thanks to an impressive 44-13 victory over Harlequins at Sixways.

It was a big relief for Warriors’ players who have been locked in a relegation battle with London Irish for almost the entire season.

Solomons admits their efforts to beat the drop have taken its toll but with one match left he is keen to see his team deliver a strong showing at Franklin’s Gardens before letting his men go off on their summer holidays.

“Everybody is feeling a bit knocked about because of the nature of season so we will take a close look at who is available and pick accordingly,” Solomons said.

“But we are up against a tough team on the weekend so we need to select our best possible side.”

Solomons is confident fly-half Dorian Jones will be available to play despite going off for a head injury assessment against Quins.

But there are doubts over the fitness of wing Bryce Heem who suffered a blow to his throat in the same match.

“I think Dorian will be alright,” Solomons said.

“There is a protocol he has got to follow and if he passes the tests then he will play.

“We will have a look at Bryce and see how he tracks.

“But I am not going to play someone who is not right.”

Solomons will be without captain Donncha O’Callaghan after he played the final game of his 20-year career while Will Spencer has been ruled out with a toe injury.

With the duo unavailable, 21-year-old Andrew Kitchener is expected to be in the mix to start alongside Darren Barry in the second row.

Warriors have moved level on points with 10th placed Quins who host leaders Exeter Chiefs and are only two points behind Saints, meaning a win could see Solomons’ side finish as high as ninth.

But Solomons insists his team are coming up against a resurgent Saints side who claimed two points from a 36-29 defeat at Wasps last weekend.

“We have got a tough game against Northampton and that’s where our focus is,” Solomons said.

“After that we will let the guys go and have a break and we will come back fresh and ready for what will be a challenging season.

“Northampton have had some difficult times. But they got a massive win against Leicester Tigers at Welford Road and I thought they played well against a very dangerous Wasps team.

“They are in good form at the moment.”
