DIRECTOR of rugby Alan Solomons hopes to see several of his Worcester Warriors players involved with England this summer.

Centre Ben Te’o has been a regular on the international scene and is expected to secure his place in Eddie Jones’ squad for the tour to South Africa.

But Solomons believes lock Will Spencer, hooker Jack Singleton and prop Nick Schonert should also be in the mix for the three-match series next month.

The uncapped trio have featured regularly for Warriors this season and were previously in Jones’ plans.

Solomons also revealed England’s coaches had visited Sixways on “a number of occasions” to take a closer look at his players.

“I would like to see Spenny involved,” Solomons said.

“Sharkey (Schonert) has had a great season, Jack has done terrifically this year too and Ben has been part of the England squad.

“During my time here I have spoken to (forwards coach) Steve Borthwick and he has come over to watch practice.

“(Scrum coach) Neal Hatley, who I coached in South Africa, has also come over on a number of occasions.

“The communication has been good so there has been absolutely no problem with that.

“But those are their decisions. I am not part of that discussion.”

Spencer is currently in a protective boot after suffering a blow to his toe in Warriors’ 30-15 defeat to Wasps three weeks ago.

The Leicester Tigers-bound 25-year-old will miss Worcester’s final-day clash at Northampton Saints on Saturday (4pm).

But Solomons said Spencer, who played for England in a non-cap match against Barbarians at Twickenham 12 months ago, would be fit if called up by Jones.

“Spenny should be alright in another week or so,” Solomons said.

“But he is not right for Saturday and I wouldn’t like to see any further damage done.”

Singleton also played against the Baa-baas before being part of the touring party to Argentina.

The 21-year-old has not been in the frame since then but with England captain Dylan Hartley ruled out through injury Solomons reckons he has a chance of a call-up.

“There are some good hookers in England,” Solomons said.

“But Jack is a very good young player. He is good in the set-piece, good around the park, has got a good rugby brain and showed some good leadership skills as well.

“It is his first season where he has played literally every game, certainly in the six months I have been here.

“At times he has really felt it but he was really good (against Harlequins) last weekend. He was fresh so it will be interesting to see how he tracks on Saturday because it is going to be a very physical game.”

Solomons said he would also be “disappointed” not to see Durban-born Schonert have the opportunity to go up against South Africa.

The 26-year-old tighthead, who qualifies to play for England through his grandmother, has started in Warriors’ last eight Premiership games.

“Nick has played terrifically,” Solomons said.

“His scrummaging has been par excellence but around the park he has been great too and has really put his hand up.

“Personally I would be disappointed if he doesn’t make it.”

England take on South Africa at Emirates Airline Park, Johannesburg, on June 9, at Toyota Stadium, Bloemfontein, on June 16 and at DHL Newlands, Cape Town, on June 23.
